Elliptical in Disguise

Unlike me, Steve is very good about exercising daily. He uses a rowing machine we have, some weights and an elliptical. Our original elliptical bit the dust this weekend, convienently just shortly after our extended warranty expired. So, off we went to buy a new one.

We finally settled on a model from Sears that I fell in love with because it can fold up.

Please ignore the chaos in the background of those shots. To put it mildly, we are lacking a bit in storage space.

Naturally, Steve had to assemble the thing while I helpfully watched.

One cool thing about this particular elliptical is that instead of throwing the small parts (bolts, screws, etc.) into a bag and letting you guess their intended purpose, there was actually a cardboard toolbox of sorts included where each type of part was divided up and a sheet was provided labeling the contents.

I guess now I should… I don’t know… maybe use it or something…

Hey, that almost qualifies as a Transformer.

We used to have an exercise machine that was a transformer - most of the time it lived its life as a clothes tree.

Any recommendations on a good rowing machine? Especially one that's quiet and can fit under a bed???

I have been quite happy with my rower, it has a fan for resistance (it’s an Integrity 3000 http://www.amazon.com/Integrity-Air-Rowing-Machine-3000/dp/B0000AT1QZ) But the fan makes it neither quiet nor compact.

To get that you would have to get one that uses air pistons. The first rower I had was a piston one. You'll get noise from air escaping the pistons and the seat sliding on the track, but its not bad. Here's an example :(http://www.amazon.com/Stamina-35-1205-1205-Precision-Rower/dp/B000AMRN44/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&s=sporting-goods&qid=1202265726&sr=1-3)

These actually give a little bit more accurate feel as the arms are independent like they are on a scull. The one I had worked fine until one day the plastic knuckle that attached the piston and arm exploded. I say exploded because we were finding pieces a month after it happened.
