Steve loves movies. In theory, so do I. However, I have grown to really detest the movie theater experience. The people talking to each other and on their cell phones during the show, the crowded rows of sweaty patrons reeking of fake butter, the coughing and sneezing and crinkling of wrappers… the whole thing is an exercise in annoyance and disgust for me. For quite awhile, Steve attended movies alone or with other friends because I detested the experience so much. But we have found the solution.
Now whenever a movie comes out that we want to see, we attend the earliest morning show on the Sunday after it is released. No matter how popular the movie, these shows are always deserted. For the newest Harry Potter movie (whose first showing was 9 am this morning) there were only about ten people in the theater with us. It was quiet and spacious and absolutely wonderful.
We both really enjoyed the newest Potter offering. I have never read any of the books (nor do I plan to, so don’t bother trying to convince me… it’s been done) and Steve decided that he preferred reading the book after seeing the movie since rather then focusing on what the movie left out, you can focus on enjoying greater expansion of the story you just saw. So we can’t comment on how good it was compared to the book, but we had a good time.
Now, instead of working to convince me to go with him to see any movie, Steve just has to work on convincing me to see bad movies (his current persuading project: Transformers 2... good luck with that one. I saw Transformers 1 and I swear it killed a good chunk of my remaining brain cells).

I was so glad Philip volunteered to take my boys to Trans. II so I didn't have to go!
