Steve’s Birthday Money

Steve received some birthday cash from my parents and grandparents and decided to get a new motorcycle jacket. He’s been talking about it for awhile, since his old one is now really big on him and uncomfortable to wear.

Thanks Mom, Dad, Grandma and Grandpa! I really like the new one a lot better.

We left the house… again!

Last Thursday, Steve and I went to a show at the Warfield Theater in San Francisco. We were fortunate enough to be able to meet J briefly for dinner before the show began. I keep calling it a “show” because it was somewhere between a stand-up performance and a concert from Stephen Lynch, a self-described singing comedian.

Steve and I have been listening to his albums for years, and were thrilled to finally see him in concert.

Stephen Lynch leans toward the shocking and twisted end of the comedic spectrum and thus we would not recommend him to anyone who is offended by… well… anything. So, if you look him up and don’t like what you hear, don’t blame us.

We absolutely loved the show and I’m so glad that Steve drags me out of the house to do these things. San Francisco is definitely not one of my favorite places, but it was certainly worth braving the city this time.

The Warfield Theater is San Francisco is a really unimpressive building from the outside… even a little seedy-looking. But the inside was quite a different story. We only had Steve’s iPhone to take pictures, so I apologize for the poor quality.

Home Grown

My parents have put together a very impressive garden in their little bit of Lakewood land and have been known to put in some veggies for the bunnies to eat. This time, they gave us some great chard and parsley for them.

Buster inspects the offerings…

… and approves.

So close...

I took my first CPA exam section last month after having been out of school for four years, and was pretty sure I hadn't done very well. And the official word is now finally in. I got a 72. Passing is 75.

On the one hand, I could be really frustrated that I came so close and didn't pass so now I have to take it again (including paying somewhere close to $300 in fees to retake the darn thing). But I'm choosing to take heart in the fact that my feeble post-college brain was able to do even that well.

So, on to the next exam, Audit and Attestation, which I'll take in late July. I rescheduled the test that I was supposed to take next week to October so that I'll have more time to study for each of the remaining three exams and hopefully pass them all the first time.

Sounds like a thrilling summer.

Steve’s Birthday Wrap-Up

We went down to Southern California last Thursday night to spend some time with my family and have an early Saturday Mother’s Day celebration with my Mom and Grandma. We had to have lunch with them a day early so that we could take advantage of Disneyland’s free-on-your-birthday promotion for Steve’s birthday on Sunday. Taking advantage of their annual passes, Steve’s sister Natalie, her husband Richard and their two boys came along with us to celebrate. We had a great time. And took not a single picture, so it makes a pretty lame blog post.
