First off, my eyes may look a little funny in that picture because it had to be edited. I get horrible red-eye in any picture I take due to my dark eyes. Also, in care you’re wondering, my name is Hawaiian for “sweetheart.” My humans spelled it wrong, and are probably saying it wrong, not being Hawaiian and all. It should be “Ipo.” But anyway…
The first rule of interacting with a human companion is to always make your human feel wanted and an important part of your life. You can do this in many ways. Begin to rattle your cage approximately a half hour before dinner time each night. This ensures that they know how much you appreciate being fed and would hate for them to experience the emotional pain of forgetting you. Thumping around 2 in the morning is also very effective. Thumping (for those who don’t have rabbits) is when you strike your back leg on the ground and it makes a surprisingly loud and shocking noise. This is usually done to indicate fear or a general state of anxiety. We find it also works quite effectively to remind humans of your presence and how much you love them.
The second rule is to interact daily. Look jealous of their food, even though if it was presented to you, you wouldn’t want it. Also assume that any time they go to the fridge it is to get you a treat. Run around a make a big racket. It entertains the humans and keeps their life interesting.
The third rule is to spice things up wherever possible. When out to play, it’s important to do everything in your power to acquire objects that they did not want you to have (see previous editorial by Johnny). They will then chase you around to attempt to retrieve said objects, which is very amusing for any other humans watching. Also, it’s important for your moods to be as random as possible to ensure entertainment value. Practice going from playful and begging to be petted to cross and glaring. It’s always a puzzler for humans, and often will get you a treat as they beg you to forgive them for their trespasses.
Remember these simple guidelines when interacting with your human, and you’re sure to have a long and entertaining relationship.
