9 Months Old

The past month has been a pretty stinkin' adorable time around our house. The boys have both started babbling more. Jack seems to sometimes associate certain babbles with particular people and objects... "ba" for toys sometimes other objects (ball, or bottle, I guess?), "da" for Steve (he's also just started making the follow-up "de" sound), and "ma" for me and as a general word of complaint (I think he thinks it means "I need someone to do/fix something for me," which I suppose is accurate enough). Both boys like to experiment with the sounds they can make... Henry mostly with shrieks. Jack, however, runs his fingers over his lips to make wub-wub sounds, likes to press and remove his mouth from objects to give a sort of wa-wa sound, and makes another vocalization that sounds a bit like someone rolling their r's. It's going to be strange when they really begin talking in earnest... I expect their first words will be what they hear most: "let go of your brother!"

On their nine-month birthday, enjoying time with their beloved nanny Kasey (Henry left, Jack right):
Jack can army crawl and gets around rather well. Henry can sit up from laying down, push up onto his hands and knees in very textbook crawling form, and is working on figuring out that tricky forward momentum. He has taken a few small scoots forward recently, so I think he'll get that crawling thing down soon.

Henry showing off his crawling form:

Henry is largely boycotting his formula and wants to eat solids, so he now has "real food" for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Unfortunately, Henry has rejected every type of sippy cup we're tried (including a straw cup and just using his bottle) and will only drink water from a glass like the adults do. [sigh] Jack is less interested in solids and does fairly well with his bottle, so he just does breakfast and dinner for now.

Jack is now 20 lbs 4 oz and Henry is 18 lbs 12 oz. They're growing well and are generally sweet little dudes.

"Only the best thing ever!"
Feeling the wind in his face on the forward swing:
Jack: "Whatcha doin', Daddy?"
Steve: "Assembling this safety gate to keep you out of the kitchen."

Jack: "Oh, okay, lemme help. I'll hold it for ya."

It's been an eventful month... onward we go. I expect they'll figure out crawling in the next month, so our lives are about to get a lot crazier.
