I painted this on a scrap board we liberated from the Home Depot lumber section "oops" cart. The kite is supposed to be coming from someone in the backyard (I have some issues drawing perspective). It's modeled loosely off a house for sale in our neighborhood (asking price $600k). I wasn't going to post anything about the painting, but when I showed it to Steve, he said really nice things about it... which either means it's not as bad as I thought, or he knows that no matter how hideous the result, you should always complement your wife's art projects. At any rate, we're probably going to put it in the kitchen.

What do you get when you combine excessive amounts of free time, scrap wood, house envy and paint?

I agree with Steve. Even just as a picture on a blog, I think it looks really nice, and I have no ulterior motive. Maybe you have a future in folk art?
Do I see your signature at the base of the tree? I'm particularly impressed with your uses of color and texture in the tree. What type of paint? - Acrylics, oils?
Carolyn
I'm a little embarrassed... my initials "LL" are in the very bottom right corner. The markings on the base of the tree say "S+L". I was originally making it for Steve in honor of the tenth anniversary of our first date, but I decided I didn't feel like waiting to give it to him.
The paints are acrylics that I got from my grandpa. He has painted some really wonderful and charming things, and when I expressed interest in doing some painting myself, I was given a box full of supplies: paints, brushes and canvases. I'm reluctant to use the canvases, so I'm painting on scrap wood for now.
Very respectable folk art, I'd say. I expect to see it hanging on the wall of your eventual first owned home.
I don't have any ulterior motives either and I think it was very nicely done.
