Our dear friend J is leaving this week to follow his partner Tanya to her new teaching position across the country. Tanya is great and we completely understand his decision. But that doesn’t mean we’re going to miss him any less.

Getting to know J was a bit of an accident of fate. J is the cousin of Steve’s brother’s childhood friend Eric. Quite the abstract connection between us. But when Steve’s brother left on his mission, Steve became closer friends with Eric and once we moved to Santa Cruz (where J also went to school) we got to know J better since he was living close by in the bay area.

I will keep this short and sweet. He was Steve’s best man at our wedding and he is simply one of our favorite people ever. We will miss him terribly. But all the same, we hope he loves his new home and meets all kinds of new and wonderful people… as long as they’re just a little less wonderful than we are, so he will be sure to come back someday.
