Field No More

Our front yard has looked largely like an abandoned field since we moved in. Periodically, we would spend a day hacking back the excessively tall weeds, only to have them return with a vengeance while we attended to other things. But now, for the first time, the front yard has been tamed. I present to you, something that actually resembles a front yard.

In process:
 Now:
Some of the plants are ones we brought with us from our previous rental. Others were purchased from the UC Santa Cruz arboretum plant sale. Our goal is to use mostly native plants with flowers that are popular with hummingbirds and butterflies. Should be interesting to watch everything fill in... and hopefully attract wildlife for me to watch through our new windows.

It looks really good. Did you find the stepping stones under the weeds?
We enjoy your posts. Carolyn

Yes, we actually did find those (pretty large) stones partially buried in the front yard. As I recall, Steve was digging up weeds and hit something solid, and we ended up excavating those big rocks. Always an adventure at our house.
