I'm going with simplicity in titling for this blog post. Steve and I are hosting friends Eric, Gail, J and Tanya this weekend. Steve and I worked really hard to get the house into a reasonable state and as clean as possible, which made for a good opportunity to take some updated pictures.

On Friday before our guests arrived, Steve and I installed a brand new cabinet for the area next to the stove (previously occupied by a black metal shelving unit that really wasn't right for the space, but it was what we had available). We had a scrap of countertop leftover from the rest of the kitchen projects. Steve sanded and oiled the scrap and it was just perfect... except that it was too shallow and didn't cover the entire top of the new cabinet. I thought for awhile and then had Steve help remove the expandable "wing" section of an old bamboo drawer organizer we had laying around. In the picture below, you can see that we used this "wing" piece to store cooking oils and the like. We haven't had a chance to put the side panel on the cabinet yet (we didn't have the right screws, so it's just leaning next to the cabinet) but other than that, the cabinet is all done and we're pretty thrilled with the result.
Lastly, a picture of the bathroom to show the beautiful cove molding Steve put along the bottom of the baseboard awhile back. Other than hanging some art and doing some work on the window (scraping, repainting and rehanging to fix the direction of the swing) the bathroom is done.
