Further Domestication

Steve is good about keeping the kitchen stocked with fruit and generally does a fairly good job of working through it in a timely manner. But the giant box of cherries he got was beginning to go bad, so we needed a way to use them up quick. Feeling ambitious, he decided on pie.

I pitted the cherries:

Steve prepared the dough and filled the pie:

Finished product:

It turned out really well for the first pie we've ever made. We ran out of white sugar partway through, so it was half white sugar and half brown sugar. Tasted good, though.

It looks very yummy. Isn't fun how doing things like that make you feel all grown up?

It’s kind of frightening, really. I have to admit, though, that I really don’t feel like a “grown up” yet. I’m somewhere in the middle… some college kids are starting to look young to me and even though I’m married and pay my own bills and all that, I just don’t feel like an adult. I’m not sure when I will feel that way… maybe when I’m 40.

Gail and I like to substitute honey for sugar, just a suggestion if you have it laying around.

One of the wonderful things about pie is that it's pretty difficult to screw up the filling. Looks delicious.

p.s. My mom says she doesn't feel grown up yet and she's 64!
