This was in the back of my mind when I spotted a basket of "retro" house numbers at an eclectic Santa Cruz home furnishings store. They were inexpensive and I thought they were kind of cool. After collecting quarter-round trim, a bright blue paint sample bottle, a piece of scrap wood and super glue, I was ready to begin crafting something better for our front door.
After Steve cut and I painted the scrap wood, Steve trimmed the quarter-round.
(Kids, do not try this at home. Hacksaws should not be used on your lap.)
Since the "1/2" part of our address is for some reason extremely hard to find (it didn't exist in the tiles I purchased or in any standard stickers at our local home improvement stores) I used the existing numbers as a guide and sketched it out.
I used a marker to trace the "1/2" through the paper and on to the board and filled in with paint.
I think it turned out pretty well for someone who is not terribly artistic.
But there was still something missing.
Much better. Much more colorful. And I think delivery folk will know they're in the right place next time.
