This has been an extraordinarily expensive week. I just felt I had to post it because it was so impressive. In the past 3 days, we’ve spent over $1,400.
It started when our rabbit Demetri required an expensive dental surgical procedure. I won’t go into it too much since I doubt anyone out there is all that interested in rabbit medicine, but suffice it to say he has a lot of issues. We’ve been fighting this fight with him since 2005, when he supposedly had only a few months to live. Four years later, he’s doing amazingly well, especially considering he’s at least 8 years old. When all was said and done this time around, the bill was $820. Those of you who don’t understand how we could spend this much money on a rabbit just don’t know Demetri. He’s worth every cent.
The following day I was driving to work and my car died mid-block near downtown Santa Cruz. AAA towed me to our local mechanic and I ended up walking to work from there. Normally Steve would have picked me up, but when he attempted to start the truck it too was dead (he rides his motorcycle to work and we aren’t sure how long the truck had been dead). A new fuel pump for my car and a battery for Steve’s truck set us back $620.
At this point I just want to say that I feel extremely fortunate that Steve and I can afford these expenses. We make a good living and are very lucky. But… good grief!

Here is hoping you have cheap weeks for the rest of the month.
Oy vay!
I wonder if there will be a government run option for vetinary care....
Well, there is pet health insurance... but by the time I realized that Demetri would be so expensive, he would have be denied coverage due to pre-existing conditions. Most rabbits (including my other sickly one, Kuipo) are not expensive enough to justify monthly premiums. Believe me, if we knew that Demetri would be... oh well.
yeah, one of those things you don't know (like when your car is going to need repair).
