UC Farm
We attended the UC Santa Cruz Farm open house. I had never been in that area of campus and found it pretty interesting. The boys seemed to have a good time. The highlight was definitely the hay ride.

Belated Birthday
The boys with some very much enjoyed belated birthday cards from former nanny Kasey:
Kasey sent them some birthday money, which they used to buy themselves wristwatches (Spiderman for Jack and Pikachu for Henry) and some other treats. The boys' city parks and rec soccer class has been great, and their coach has been fantastic. It'll be sad when it's over for the season at the end of October.

I've found playing soccer mom and watching them learn to play far more interesting and engaging than I expected.
A few weeks into the school year, Jack rather abruptly started wearing his tie-dye shirts with much greater frequency. When I mentioned to him that I noticed that he was wearing those shirts more often, he informed me that it was because the teachers often have the kids line up according to what color shirt they're wearing (eg. kids with red on their shirts line up first). So, Jack was making sure he had as many colors on his shirt as possible so he could always be near the front of the line.
Henry
As my grandmother used to tell me with some frequency, "if you can't be good, be clever."
Henry is an ambitious writer, particularly since he cannot yet read. Following is his "bug book," where he attempted to spell everything himself.

The boys' kindergarten teacher sent home a flyer explaining that she encourages her students to be adventurous and prolific writers, and to focus on doing one's best to write as much as possible, even before the kids can produce accurate spelling.
I'm really proud of the boys' progress in school. They've learned their first list of sight words and are working on the second list.
Since the boys' grandpa converted their jeep from remote-control drive to kid-control drive, the boys love taking it out into the neighborhood.

Made it!
On one recent afternoon outing, the boys had me walk with them as they drove to the neighborhood comic store, parked neatly out of the way, and walked in to buy a couple comics with some of their birthday money. We attracted quite a bit of attention on the way, reminding me of what life was like when I went out with them as babies.
