We had a visitor! It was nice to finally have the space to properly host Steve's mom. Well, maybe not quite "properly," since the house next door is still under construction, but we did our best. Grandma Loveridge was a tremendous help, hanging out with the boys and doing a ton of weeding.
The boys were very pleased to have some time this past month playing in the sand.
Jack, regarding his sand structure, "I built it with my two trucks. It took a lot of work."
Henry is happiest running in (and from) the waves.
Sand construction complete, Jack joins in the wave running.

The boys adore their dad. Here, the gentlemen cook dinner (mac 'n' cheese, a favorite).
Jack stirs:
Henry adds the cheese:
Goofy boys:
In yet another sign that the boys are growing up, we decided it was time to remove the cabinet drawer safety latches. Henry immediately needs to go through each drawer...
... and is pretty pleased with himself.

Jack in the mud:
The boys love doing art projects. Their enthusiasm does not extend to Mom requesting to take pictures of their process:
Henry, working with dinosaur stickers.

Geez, what do you want, Mom!?
Okay, I'll humor you.
Henry is quite the sticker aficionado.
I guess I'll slide down, since I'm not doing anything else.
Spinning round and round with a backdrop of redwood trees:
In other excitement, Grandma and Grandpa Pool sent goodies from their latest grand road trip.

Jack's drawing skill took a huge leap forward in the past month.
First stick figure!
"It's a bearded dinosaur," says Jack. "It's a 'Ackeosaurus.' "Flowers, by Jack:
Letters and, per Jack, a ghost:
Jack occasionally needed me to remind him how to draw certain numbers, but he took it upon himself to write out this series. Except the "3," all writing is his (including the zero he went back and added).
The boys got bath bombs in their Christmas stockings last year, and have been agitating for more ever since. Their Aunt Jessica was kind enough to send up a kit so we could make them ourselves, but harried parents haven't quite gotten their act together to do it. In the meantime, I saw "space" bath bombs at Target. They contained tiny purple and green aliens, and turned the water an unsettling black. The boys thought it was pretty cool.
As Steve works hard to make progress on the house next door, I try to distract the boys as much as my energy level that day allows, including occasional trips to local parks.
Fierce spider Jack and slightly less menacing spider Henry:
Henry tackles the bridge, while Jack is less than impressed by the slide:I guess I'll slide down, since I'm not doing anything else.
Spinning round and round with a backdrop of redwood trees:
In other excitement, Grandma and Grandpa Pool sent goodies from their latest grand road trip.
Jack is giddy with anticipation:
Even the card is exciting to Henry:
PUPFISH! Henry is elated.
Jack is thrilled to find his pupfish, who he has since named "Blubber."
The pupfish are honored guests at story time.

Lest one think we allow the boys to have too much fun... chore time!
The boys load the dishwasher:
Painting the wall Steve patched in the shed next door, after plumbing preparation for a utility sink:
Vacuuming the shed after utility sink installation:If those boys turn out to work even half as hard as their dad, they'll be capable of anything.
